The William Bray loves creative people and what better way to celebrate the creativity of UK artists than to create our very own Artist’s Corner here in Shere. Every month, we will display a different painting by established local artists.
This month, we are celebrating the work of Nicky Chubb, a renowned artist. Nicky originally trained as a designer, graduating from Central St Martin’s School of Art in 1993 with a BA (hons) in Fashion Design and printed textiles. After working in various areas of the fashion & textile design industry, a career break to raise her four children led her to rediscover the excitement of drawing & painting.
A message from Nicky
“I hope that my work is both expressive & joyful – my flower paintings are an attempt to capture the burst of happiness that I always feel on finding an unexpected patch of wildflowers, or when a breeze sends a meadow dancing.
I’m particularly inspired by the vivacious wildflowers, hardy heathland plants and big skies I see in the countryside around my home, and the powerful feeling of permanence and belonging that watching a familiar landscape through changing seasons can bring. I am also strongly influenced by memories of the flowers that my Grandad grew in his garden when I was a child, and the naive shapes that I often use are representative of this”.
We've got a fine reputation as a summer destination pub - thanks to our lovely regulars spreading the word... But did you know just how lovely we look in the winter? Our big log stove warms the whole pub as we serve the best local winter warmer ales and full-bodied cold-weather reds. Jamie's new winter menu is being enjoyed every day in the very cosy restaurant. Our team are loving the warmth and happiness our customers express when they walk in for the first time. Come down and see and feel for yourself the very perfect-for-winter - Willian Bray.
Put another log on the fire for me...
In August 2015, new owners, Piers and Melissa took ownership of The William Bray, the celebrated pub in the heart of the Surrey Hills.
Commenting, Piers said, "it's a great opportunity to take the reigns of The William Bray and we are very much looking forward to meeting all the locals and visitors of Shere".
As well as continuing the great reputation for local ales, fine wines and great food, why not come and visit our newly refurbished bar and restaurant, with a warm fire and cosy atmosphere in winter and a terrific sun catching garden in the summer.
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
